Aroma Therapy
By StarStuffs
Our sense of smell is an integral part of how we perceive the world around us. Certain odors invoke memories as well as sending
electrochemical messages to the brain that ultimately affects the whole body. There are no differences
between the food we eat everyday and medicinal plants. All have a molecular composition that nourish the body. Diet, massage, deep breathing,
meditation and yoga used in conjunction with plants/herbs aids in preventing and curing ailments and diseases within the body.
Herbal medicine is the oldest from of medicine in the world. Aromas and fragrances are used in spiritual cleansing in sacred rituals
and ceremonies, dreaming and healing internally and externally. The healing power of plants have been a part of ancient knowledge throughout the
world dating back thousands of years in which science today has substantiated such properties in modern medicine. Medicinal manuscripts
and oral traditions have been incorporated into many modern healing arts. Currently there are 300
essential oils in general use today. Scientists have found the oils to be complex in nature containing at least 100+ components that we benefit from.
Clinical studies have proven many folk remedies by analyzing the plants molecular properties. The most extensive medical investigation and
documentation has been in the Chinese - Ayurvedic
practices. Their underlying concept of life energy supports every organism and unites us with every thing in the universe.
Plants are not simply objects with chemical and symbolic aspects. Plants are living organisms and thus essential oils are a very powerful
and concentrated essence of the plant.
Aromatherapy simply uses oils extracted from natural plant material to aid the mind, body and spirit as a holistic approach to overall well being.
*Essential oils can be found in places that are concerned with nature and health as in health food stores rather than the bath and perfume shops.

Since the field of aromatherapy is vast, only the oils that pertains to relaxation and the chakras will be mentioned here. You will find more detailed information on aromatherapy
in the links section.
Methods for Dispersing Scents:
Candles:
1-2 drops of essential oil applied to a little of the melted wax after it has been lit. Do not get the oil on the candle wick because the oil is flammable.
There are ready-made scented candles available as well.
Diffusers:
1-6 drops of essential oil is heated and the fragrance is emitted.
Light bulbs: 1-2 drops of essential oil placed on a *cool* bulb, do not let it drip, or place a few drops of oil on a cotton ball and rub over a cool bulb.
Water bowls: 1-9 drops of essential oil in a bowl of boiling or hot water.
*Never leave candles unattended.
*Ensure placement is on a heat resistant surface.
*Never take the oils internally unless directed by a qualified medical practitioner.
*Never apply the the oils directly to the skin without first consulting reliable
sources.
This aromatherapy page is for emitting fragrances through the various dispersion methods and not be taken or applied directly to the body. Applying essential oils is an art. Please study up on the subject if you wish to take the subject further.
